Frame/Hack Saw

Decided to make a beefed up junior hacksaw.

Seems to Work, you can tension the blade without causing any twist of the blade and the extra heft makes it easier to make a straight cut.
Only thing I’m not sure about is I may have made the frame a bit bulky so it might hide the blade from my line of sight while I’m cutting something, time will tell.

Made with hand tools only as always, feel free to comment, critique and shout abuse as you see fit.

Got a bit of oak and sketched out a handle shape

Rough out the shape with a saw and chisel

Thread some brass rod, I really need to add a vice for metalwork at some point.

And make a couple of nuts by cutting off a bit of brass bar, drilling and tapping them

A bit more of the same bar to make the blade holders.

Make the tightening nut out of 1 of the nuts, this is going at the top front of the saw so the tensioning works like a frame saw.

Everything roughed up and ready for final shaping

Shaped out with files and rasps, then sanded

And done

-- If I say I'll fix something around the house I will, there is no use nagging about it every 6 months.

I like it, looks beefy for non wandering cuts.

This is cool, nice built. I bet it was a fun day in the shop, just let your imagination take over and work the wood.
The only thing I would suggest is to reduce the bulk of the handle. Maybe make a pistol grip style, that might improve your line of sight.
Anyway, great build.
