Cantilevered Corner Desk

This was a desk I let my preteen son design. He was a rabid Lego fan at the time, so he wanted lots of surface space. I went with pine, and used the sanded pre-made tabletop from Lowes – that saved a ton of time and turned out nice. The green wall is concrete block, so anchoring under the window didn’t go as smooth as I planned, so I added an apron to the end of that section to stop the raking. The corner and midpoint of the brown wall are cantilevered, which makes sliding around much safer for growing kneecaps.

My big revelation from this project was FINALLY trusting the numerous suggestions I’d gotten about sanding after staining. That seemed counter intuitive to me, but obviously it worked and after about 3 or 4 applications, the desk is super smooth.

It’s a nice desk and has plenty of working space.
