New project, started at the last minute (the norm) so I have to hurry and get finished. Last Sunday I pieced some of the coffin details together. Chose a coffin over a casket as the coffin is more associated to Halloween than the casket. Toe Pincher seems scarier!!!
Well, I will add/cull more pics as it progresses. Of course, I need to paint it. Pink Coffins are not scary oh, and IT will be animated, expect the skeleton to break thru the door vs opening the door… :0>

Latest pics: Ok, so I’ve got the door cut. Decided to go with the skeleton breaking thru it vs just opening. Made the trial run with pneumatics and they work great. Now, get the skeleton set in place, paint the thing, program the plc and get it in place for HALLOWEEN NITE MMMHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAAahahaa… srry, got carried away… :0}

Where’s the wood??? It will be on the inside for support of the pneumatics… Besides, the foam has a wood grain pattern thanks to my box cutter. :0)

A nice fun project.

I hope you’re gonna capture the event on video. Can’t wait to see it. When do you plan on the skeleton bursting out and who are you aiming to scare out of their wits?

A pink coffin could be unique. It, being nonthreatening in color would entice unsuspecting persons and lull them into your trap!

Hey Rivergirl, good call. I didn’t think of that!
I will see if I can locate some video equipment. It would be good to see if it works. Good ideas, Thanks.
I hope to have a fog machine pumping it full of fog, so, when the skeleton breaks out so does a huge amout of ghostly fog…
This is how I expect to have the animation go: A person comes close, triping a light sensor which signals the plc to run its programming.
1. Several loud knocks, coming fron inside the coffin ring out along with grunts and moans (method of sound is not in planning stage yet)
2. Strobe light flashes at thje exterior, more, louder moans from inside.
3. The coffin, leaning against a tree vertically, starts shaking, more grunts and knocks.
4. Then, with a bright burst of the strobe, the skeleton busts thru the lid. ( lid will be parted in the center, look as tho he breaks thru vs just opening the lid…)

PS, ideas on best way to do audio would be appreciated.

I think what you should do is as the skeleton breaks through the lid and the unfortunate party screams, creep up behind them and place your hand on their shoulder for an even bigger scream. If they’re bigger than you and don’t see the funny side of it, run like hell.
