A few weeks ago I contacted Peteg in New Zealand to see if he would like to swap any item he chooses for one of my bowls. He thought that would be a good idea so we began. I sent him one of my RingMaster bowls and today when I went to the Post Office to get our mail the clerk told me I had a package from New Zealand.
He retrieved it for me and I left, got as far as the front door and turned around and asked the clerk (Doug) if he had a pair of sissors to open the box. He jumped for joy because he wanted to see what we both hoped was a bowl from New Zealand.
Anticipation turned to joy when we opened the box. Peteg had been warning me that his finishing was not up to par because of “arthur”
Well, when “arthur” come to stay with me I hope to be as good at finishing as Peteg in New Zealand.
The wood is Blackwood from trees on his sil’s farm that he had milled on site.
Beautiful grain figuration and the top rim is just outstanding – an enourmous amount of work

Thanks Pete, beautiful bowl

It really is a great looking bowl. Also a great story; post office people that care—must be a rural community!

Really nice bowl Dick. And nice work Pete!

I had a similar experience when sending out my last swap item. It was at the UPS office. The woman at the counter said it was the first time she was sending something to Utah. I explained the swap to her and she was really impressed how the LJs swap worked and thought it was a nice way of interacting with people on social media other than just posting. I agreed. My box was already sealed but I showed her pics on my phone. She was as excited about it as I was :)

Yeah, small town – pop 1200 and I live within a block of the Post Office and can’t get home delivery. Home delivery must be on a rural route and live at least 1/4 mile away from the P.O. and I meet neither of those criteria.
BUT I LOVE IT ! Everybody pretty much knows everybody, no crime etc but we’re still only 20 minutes away from the big stores, restaurants and all the other things big city folk HAVE to live with.
