Well, it didn’t go as planned (as you can tell by the awkward width of the lid), but hopefully still good enough for a 9 yr old’s birthday.

Beat yourself up all you want but I think it’s pretty darn nice.
That spalted hackberry is impressive

Took another look
I was so taken by the hackberry I didn’t even notice the blue tinted resin ? In the lid.
Real nice touch

Thanks for the kind words! Her favorite color is blue, so I mixed three small batches of epoxy and did sky blue metallic, grayish purple metallic, and white metallic to try and make a bit of a bluish “galaxy”.

I have several more slabs of this hackberry, so hopefully I’ll have more projects with it coming in the next few weeks.

That Hackberry is impressive. Don’t sweat the lid call it a design enhancement. That blue streak, and the wood is all most people will see.

Thanks for posting.

That’s flat out gorgeous! Fantastic wood and I really like that beveled top.

Dylan, the hackberry is spectacular. Nice job of matching the corner grain. You might consider a stop chain to keep your nine-year-old from breaking off the lid at the hinges. Keep boxing and keep posting.

That is a really great idea!. I’ll try to remember to take some tools and a chain next time I’m over that way.
