This is a Day Bed I made for daughter-in-law for her birthday. The timber is all Kauri pine and the finish is three coats of Penetrol Wood Oil followed by as many coats of wax I could get on before I got bored.
Joinery for the frame is mortice and tenon.
The slats sit in a grove top and bottom with Kauri pine spacers to keep them in place. It’s a great theory, but it nearly drove me mad lining up the all the slats in their correct slots for the short sections on the ends – the long section on the back required a complete new vocabulary of expletives!
The design is a cross between a standard single bed (for overall dimensions) and a photo my daughter-in-law had of a day bed she was fond of. The end result sits proudly on their front verandah.
