This particular piece centers around what I set out to do in my work. It holds meaning. It also can hold sentiments, as the interior is very spacious weighing in at approximately 13×10x5. This piece already has its own story of one very determined individual who put in as much thought and concern as if this piece was a personal purchase. L. Manelius set out with an idea to present dear friends of hers with this African Padauk Memory Box as a wedding gift. This quest began well over a year ago, to be somewhat precise, May 2009. I was selected to be the lucky maker, and began selecting the planks this past July. The wood inlaid into the body is unknown. Several small branches were cut from a tree in the yard of the newlyweds, and sent to me. I cut these small logs into strips and let them air dry, before cutting inlay strings. The piece features straight forward joinery in screws and shop made Padauk plugs. The inside piece that displays the message for the soon to be newlyweds is Cherry. Speaking of the newlyweds, I think its safe to say that they have a true friend, in one Lauren Manelius.

Quiet and simple, but very well executed. Padauk has such a nice color when it ages, and the banding is a nice touch. Well done!

The story adds to the box (not that it needs anything). WOW!
