Hybrid Globe Anniversary Gift

This is my 2nd hybrid sphere, my wife loves these things and I thought that she always said that they remind her of a planet. so I thought I would make her one in the style of a globe for our 22nd wedding anniversary. The inscription reads “You mean the world to me”. The wood in the sphere is camphor burl with blue tinted alumilite resin, the pins and cups that hold the sphere are made of ebony, and the rest of the base and arc is maple. there was another version (pic #4) where the arc and base were made of figured maple and a little thinner and shorter with a smaller base. This version broke twice and since I needed to remake it, I took a long look and made some on the fly changes. 1. the base was too small, 2. the figured wood in the arc and base takes away from the sphere, and 3. the base piece was a little short. All of these observations were corrected in the final piece which I am pleased with (my wife is also very pleased). Feel free to leave a comment, I would love to get your opinions on this piece. I also posted a video on YouTube if you would like to see how it’s made at https://youtu.be/f6cUDHPzvRg.

Beautiful work. I love the depth of the blue that you achieved! Thanks for sharing.

Wow, thats gorgeous. Beautiful piece of art work. You did a spectacular job with your design and turning. What a challenge, and all the obstacles you had to over come. I would have loved watching you create your hybrid sphere on video. You are a true artist. Thanks for inspiring

Fantastic creation, very beautiful, a whole lot of craftsmanship on display with this, outstanding seems to be an understatement.
The effort & thought put into making this along with the sentiment you inscribed should make this a cherished gift for a lifetime, well done.
