These little boxes are really fun to do. This is made of cherry and the little handle is padauk and maple laminated with a dowel through (with a tiny piece of rosewood cut in to the middle of the dowel). It was a good “getting to know you” project for my new 14” bandsaw :) I’m working on a few other little ones just to expand on the skill – and because they are so fun to see take form. After a lot of time sanding I finished it with 4 coats of Shellac and rubbed out to a very nice smooth finish. I don’t have any flocking material but it would be a good way to finish the inside of the little drawer.
Thanks for looking!

Very nice. I want to try one. I’ve had my band saw for 2 years and still have not cut any curves, but I see a band saw box in my future now!

Fun indeed! But, be warned they are addictive.

They also make nice Christmas gifts, and there are so many designs possibly, including those you design with a personal touch. Can’t think of a better way to get to know your new saw.

As you develop your skills and want to progress to tighter arcs you might consider this blade stabilizer by Carter (http://www.carterproducts.com/band-saw-products/band-saw-stabilizer). Really good for smaller applications.

Yes, they are addictive – I already have several other blanks glued up and patterns adhered ready to cut. I’m using the stock blade and one big box store bought blade but have ordered much better ones and can’t wait for them to arrive. Also have looked in to the blade stabilizers – I will do that at some point. It’s just the Porter Cable 14” – wish I could justify the expense of a “read” bandsaw (or any saw for that matter) but I can’t. The possibilities are endless for these fun projects and they have such character even when they are so simple. I like getting the “how the heck did you do that??” factor from those who don’t woodwork ;)
