Sapele and Walnut Bench

This is my most recent project that I made for my in-laws as a house warming gift. This is a ribbon sapele bench with a walnut cross-piece. The sapele has progressively smaller dovetails on the outer edges, including a rounded over edge on the corners. The walnut cross-piece is a through tenon with two wedged purple heart pieces.

It is sanded around the natural edges of the sapwood, and has a wipe on poly finish. This is the second of two similar pieces I made with a large piece of sapele. The first was a coffee table, pictured in this set.

The dimensions are 48” wide x 15” deep x 18” tall.

Homerun on both of these pieces Andy! The dovetailing looks nice rounded over like that. Would love to see some more pics of the coffee table.

Really nice clean design. I like the graduated dovetails. A really subtle touch that I wouldn’t have noticed unless you mentioned them.

The dovetails are impressive. Great proportions.
