I’m sure everyone recognizes this box. I made this for my sister for Christmas last year.

It is of course based off of the design I believe was published in Wood Magazine a while ago. I didn’t actually have the plans or the article but I had a couple of pictures from the internet I used as a guide.

I think the version I made is a little larger at 9 1/4” deep and wide and almost 14” tall

The majority is of course cherry with a light figure. The inlaid strip is spalted maple bordered by walnut. The drawers are curly maple with spalted maple “veneer” on the front. The bottom drawer is divided and the top is not. The inside is lined with fake velvet (which I like working with more than velvet by the way) and the ring bars are made out of a stiff type of foam weather seal. There is a hidden spot behind the bracelet hooks on the back which of course I forgot to take a picture of.

Finish is danish oil and General Finish Arm-R-Seal.

Nicely done and the spalting adds a lot to your project : )

Sometimes half the fun is trying to figure out in your head how to make something from just looking at the picture, the other half of course is building it.

Super great job, love the use of woods and veneers.

It’s beautiful. I like the inlaid strip of different timbers.
