Ratchet Strap Organizer

Every time you throw a ratchet strap on the floorboard of the pickup, it instantly becomes hopelessly tangled. The problem increases exponetially by the number of straps on the floorboard.

I finally got so sick of untagling my ratchet straps every time I needed to use one, I came up with this organizer/carrier. It’s not genius, but it sure solves the problem. It’s ¾” Baltic Birch ply (½” would probably do fine), about 18×13½”. The edges are all slightly rounded to protect the straps and my hands.

Both hooks of each strap go through the scalloped cut-out, and the strap loops over the scalloped end. The loose tails of the straps are folded up and tucked under a ¼” shock cord (aka “bungee cord”). I offset the shock cord loops so the straps would go around the hooks instead of over them. That was overthinking it a little – the straps are flexible and will go around the hooks either way.

I’m going to build another one for my other four ratchet straps … if I ever get them untangled!

Hillarious, I just was thinking of that while neatly wrapping mine for the 100,000th time! I wrap them religiously so they don’t get tangled. I mean a few hours ago i really just thought about this..!!!!

Nice idea

Hey, that’s pretty cool!

I have a multitude of these straps, and I’ve always made a habit of neatly wrapping the strap around its own hook, just because they do become so tangled the minute you look away!
