I call this project Humidor because I am still learning how to create a work of art. I have built 5 boxes since the beginning of August, including a trip to the emergency room after a piece of Bois-D-Arc jumped off my tablesaw and into my hand. Required 11 stitches to close. Needless to say I respect my tools soo much more. The Bois-D-Arc (LSU Humidor) was my first piece and is crafted from Bois-D-Arc and purpleheart. The second box is crafted from Black Walnut with pecan inlays and splines. The third box is Black Walnut with bloodwood for the Texas Tech logo and Gaboon Ebony inlays, splines and outlines.

Beautiful boxes. Of course being from Louisiana I am partial to the LSU Humidor. You look like you have this box making down pretty good. Is the LSU box inlayed with the LSU letters?

I didn’t put the LSU letters on this box. I have a small box in production right now that I am toying with using a Bosch trim router to route out the letters and then inlay with purpleheart. My goal is to place some of these in cigar shops in Baton Rouge without the lettering of course. I don’t think LSU would like that too much. I was born and raised in South Louisiana then transplanted to Texas for my job in 1989, but will always have Louisiana marsh running thru my veins and the Tigers.

Nice job. Tell me, what is a humidor. Is it a small ice chest?.

Grumpy, a humidor is similar to a wine cellar. Provides the right amount of humidity and temperature to age and preserve cigars until you smoke them.
