This a bookcase made of solid Walnut and Walnut veneer. Custom was the understatement here.
The client has great taste and wanted something unique for their great room.
When we first saw the drawings we did not know how we were going to make the solid dome in the top section.
We have done many curved valances and curved crown mldg’s before, but the dome was never attempted.
It was actually truly enjoyable to figure out and put together, it required 4 men and a cable lift jack to hoist the one pc dome and upper valance on the top of the bookcase. Probably about 250lbs by itself.

Don’t know if we will ever get to make another one like it???

This not a great bookcase- this is a FANTASTIC bookcase. I love books and never have enough space to shelve them. Now I think they will have to do something about all that white trim on either side of that masterpiece. :)

Very imposing, how did you finish the dome? It seems to have a metallic hue…

My Sister finished it with a flat lacquer, sorry pretty boring I know.
I love french polish and natural oil finishes, seems like most cant afford the extra cost to finish by hand:(

Just imagine what you’ll be able to do when you actually learn how to do wood work! (grin)

Welcome to the LJs, home of the world’s craziest wood nuts. Please check your straight jacket before entering the clubhouse.

Seriously, a magnificent example of the craft. Thanks for sharing. We look forward to your next masterpiece.
