This is the last part of our downstairs remodel. The builder grade newel post and ballisters had to go – in their place I built this Craftsman inspired newel with a Motawi tile inset in the top. I pulled the old carpet off the treads ( which also ran up the sides of the stringers) and added hardwood treads and painted the risers and stringers to match the custom baseboards. A glass mosaic tile insert tops off the rail at the top.

Great looking box newel and balustrade. The dragonfly tile is the cherry on the cake

Very well done, Like the notches on the ballisters and the glass tile is a nice touch.

I’m not into painted things so much but I really love the style of these. Great job.

Rex,

I would have preferred to not have painted it, but that would have meant replacing ALL of the trim in my house! Not an option!!!! :)

Classic lines and great detail. I love em! Don’t worry about painting, it blends seamlessly with the house, just as it should.
