My daughter asked me to make a table for their living room that could be used as a coffee table, or a game table, but also have a place inside for her children’s toy train set. The concept table she found on Anna White’s website, and I adapted it to fit the space and meet the objectives. The top lifts off to expose the play space inside. The frame is white oak with mortise and tenon joinery. The legs are tapered. The side panels are plywood veneered with a kind of quilted sapele. The top is 1” thick Combcore┬« panel veneered with white oak. The border of the top was framed with sapele with bridle joints on the ends. I used a tabletop contour bit for the edge so it would be a little softer than a plain roundover. Finished with Minwax Spar Urethane Satin.

This is an outstanding table and I like the sharp design.
