Bottle Stoppers and Box

This was a mothers day gift this year, and it started out as 2 turned bottle stoppers. I made the red first two (left and center in all images), and then wanted to try mitered corners with spines. This was not something I’d ever done before, and wanted to test out doing it with my radial arm saw, and making a spline jig for the table saw. Then I made the little tray to go in the box to hold the bottle stoppers, and decided I needed to make a 3rd bottle stopper, as that fit better lol

Box is Red Oak with solid Walnut top and bottom panels, and Walnut splines. There is a magnet and screw that hold the box closed. The three bottle stoppers were from Rockler, and the woods I used were Padauk and Maple. The light maple stopper had a little vintage maple dye in shellac, and the blue one was Blue dye in shellac and wax. Box is finished with General Finishes Arm-R-Seal semi gloss, for 5 coats wiped on.

Mos, neat job on the splines and the general look. It appears you have mastered all the skills needed to make this style of box. Of course I would have rounded over most of the edges, but that is just my style and you are certainly entitled to your own style when you make a box. Nice job on the finish. It looks good. Keep boxing and keep posting.
