This is a commissioned piece – a co-worker of mine saw my previous work with Ray Lewis and wanted to know if I could do the Raven’s Logo.
I found a graphic (pic 2) on their website and sat down to work out a pattern. That was by FAR the hardest part of the project! Everything is “floating” in the background and had to be connected to something with a bunch of little “tabs” – made for quite a long drafting session!
After that it was just picking the right piece of wood – in this case a piece of white oak plywood – and starting up the scroll saw!
I really like the way this turned out! I gave it a bath in lemon oil to darken the oak just a tad and love the contrast it makes with the thick felt backing.
I did have to use a #1 Blade on most of the piece due the the very tiny details in the piece – Pic 3 shows the detail needed to cut out the city name – very tense bit of cutting as the “line” holding it to the main piece is less than an eighth of an inch thick!
Overall dimensions are 12×12 inches and approx an eighth of an inch thick.
