This little box was turned from ‘Lead Wood’ ... some of the hardest, heaviest wood I have ever turned.

It is 4” tall and 2-1/2” in diameter.

Looks fantastic.

Totally unfamiliar with “lead wood” though.

nice looking.
How did you do the design on the inside of the top?
quite interesting.
BTW never heard of that wood.. but it looks nice, so it looks like it might be worth the trouble.

COOL design inside the Top! You ‘turned’ it too, I presume… ??

Never heard of that wood before… sounds very dense & heavy!

Nice and simple project… I think… I like the design…

How did you do the design on the inside of the top?

I used a Wagner tool … essentially just a machinist’s knurling tool on a handle.

Where does it grow? Is it called by another name?

Leadwood (Combretum imberbe) is native to southern Africa. I had never heard of it either until a friend gave me this piece. It is ‘on sale’ in Woodcraft’s current brochure … a 2×2 x 6 piece is marked down from $18.99 to $13.29
