When the grandson loves Paw Patrol and Wooden Trains…AND…Pawpaw is turned loose in the workshop for a while! Been looking for the wheels everywhere but could not find them. Had to turn them from .25 inch Lexan on the metal lathe and use 0.1875 aluminum rivets for the axles/hubs, glued into undercarriage with Cyanoacrylate (aka super-glue). Wheels are .875 (22mm). All the wooden train stuff is actually metric dimensions. Time consuming to say the least but he’s worth it all for sure! Cutouts for figures were made by drilling overlapping holes with .5 inch Forstner bit. Got one more flatbed car ready with no cutouts in it, just short railing around the perimeter to let him use other figures. Still got to do the wheels for it. Cars were made from mostly Poplar. Acrylic paints and Acrylic clear spray to cover. Used epoxy to glue .5 inch round ceramic magnets on front and back for the couplers. Need to get some .5 inch “ring” magnets so I can add a screw or a large round headed nail like on the factory made cars. He (we) have a great time with the trains and now with even added features!!!

Paw Patrol – On a Roll!

My little guy loved his trains until he found star wars legos. Nice work grampa! Now its time for a train table ;)

Train table is being considered, using an old oak conference table tight now, little bit too high. I know the Legos are coming soon too, he already has the big Duplos and loves to build!

Thanks guys. Pawpaw got a great big smile and hug from the little one! It’s so much fun having them around!
