This is an adjustable stool I designed for use in my shop, mainly with my scroll saw. It is adjustable from 21” to 30 1/2” in about 2” increments and is made with 4/4 cherry. The seat is attached to a 1 1/2” post that slides within a sleeve for a base. There is about 1/32” gap around the post in the sleeve so hopefully I won’t have problems with expansion/contraction later. It is finished with General Finishes Satin Arm R Seal.

This is my first project with nice wood such as cherry, and I couldn’t be happier. About the only thing I would change is the seat glue-up. It’s pretty obvious from the grain where the glued-up boards are and the seams aren’t even centered, but whatever. The last picture is from when I was cutting the slots for the feet in the base. All comments and critiques welcome!

That’s a very unusual stool and I like it. The wood and finish are wonderful and you did a great job on it.

NEAT STOOL!! Makes the folding metal seat that i pulled out of a dumpster for a shop seat look not so good. I like the adjustable idea! Very nice execution of a very creative idea! I personally would have glued up the seat the same way you did, I have never tried to make a seam break in the middle of any piece i ever made. I like the seams off center actually. Just my opinion. nice job !

Alan – very nice design and interesting stool. I like this idea and beats the 5 gallon plastic can of bird seed I sit on. I, also, have problems with my glue joints. I think my problems are; 1. not getting the joint toght enough (i.e. fitting correctly), 2. using too much glue and not spreading it out correctly, and 3. not cleaning the joint correctly after I apply the clamps. Just my thoughts but great looking
