Deadfall branches... great source for turning

I took a stroll around base today, and under a large tree, which I couldn’t identify, there were several large deadfall branches that I picked up and brought home. Well… i decided to whip out a small bowl from one of the branch chunks and this is what I came out with.

A little bit of spalting can be seen on the branch side that was against the ground.

I finished this with Polyurethane and topped with wax.

I’ve seen tons of oaks, but the leaves on this tree didn’t look like any oak i’ve ever seen before… then again, these branches didn’t have leaves so may have come from another tree.

Fantastic little bowl. Great shape and the wood is outstanding.

Keep it up.

I’d plank out that spalted portion and turn it into veneer… wow.
