I have always loved grandfather clocks. Unfortunately, I have never had the courage to try and make one. Fortunately, I don’t actually have the room in my house to do justice to such a piece. So I continue to use that for my excuse for not making one.
But, I do like clocks, so being Christmas time and having an urge to give something to a few of the folks I work with, I thought maybe something a bit smaller. This is the first time I’ve made more than one of something, so the batch work was kinda new and seemed to work out pretty well.
The clocks stand about 30 inches tall and fit quite nicely on a mantle or side table. The clock works are your basic battery clocks. The last picture is the prototype, which took a little more time than available for Christmas. They’re not grandfather clocks, but they’ll do in a pinch.

Those are really nice, Russel. Now that you’ve got a start maybe it will grow and grow and be a grandpappy clock some day.

Thanks for looking. I like the idea of a Grandson clock, after all, every grandfather should have a grandson. And my dear Mr. Angle, I cannot share your optimism. I tried to grow a stool into a bench once and no matter how much I watered it, it never got any bigger.
Betsy, I’ll be flying to Phoenix from Detroit to see my kids for Christmas, so I’m guessing we’ll get somewhere near Texas, maybe I can drop one out the window. Keep your eyes open for a small parachute. ;-)

Most kind mrtrim. I do believe that the joinery is sufficient. However, I thought that the parachute would simply make it easier to catch. LOL…

Thanks for the comments. Napaman, by doing more than one I was forced to pay attention to detail a bit more since the parts as originally cut were interchangable. Too often when I make single thing I find that I will adjust parts to accomodate miscalculations in other parts. Doing a batch makes that practice somewhat impractical. The batch process was a good exercise in discipline.

Excellent indeed.. love the pendulum .
I like the Grandson idea—great promotional idea. Some people would buy it just because of the name.

Very nice, Russel. I hope to make a full scale grandfather clock one day. I’m waiting til I feel like my skil level is up to it, so there is a real questions as to whether I will live long enough. :-)

Really nice clocks Russel. They should be well received by the lucky people getting them.
