I just posted my first blog on this valet box which can be found here

This box was made using 1/2” walnut and Red Oak accent strips.

This box was based of an earlier post that I did in Pine. I am still not happy with the outcome of this box, and think I built it too small for the 1/2” thickness. The hinge is made from wood and the components I cut can be seen in the last picture.

I still had fun building it, and I am enjoying using my new found technique of splines.

I like the hinge … I think it looks great , I agree on the thickness it could be a little thinner , but it’s not terrible.

I see you got rid of the brass hinges, this looks so much better! Great looking box, anyone would be proud to receive!

I too agree on the thickness. That hinge is way better than the pine version :)
