Project Information
Cheap way to go, but the result can be priceless, The cuttings can be turned into heat energy though. Wanted to make a winged vase like I seen in a book, so started with a crotch section of the tree. Cut, cut and cut some more, not much left, change of plans. Just mount on the lathe and see what comes out, thinking of a box now as I had done a few of them. Two of them on the same blank, I had seen one like that to. No, a few chisel cut and I think it is a cup cup. Most likely will collect odds and ends that turns up in the washing machine from my pockets, nails screws, nuts bolts and sometimes money.
Anyway it sat outside too long or maybe just long enough as the spaulting was eye catching.
Salvaged two little pieces that I tuned into salt and pepper shakers
They look good together
That day I also had part of a burl that I was making a hollow turning out of, the best part, I cut through so that ended that project. I managed to salvage a smaller piece and turn a small box. Poor but the grain is nice. I put a marble on the top as I haven't turned a finial yet.
My day turning, the day was actually in March, when there was allot of snow on the ground.
All my scraps did keep me worm but I had to take the heater out of the shop as the insurance rate got too high, $3800.00, reduced by $2000.00, Will be putting in a outdoor wood boiler. Wish those in California would quit burning down their houses, we all have to help pay.
Thanks for looking and listening to my sob story, Leave a comment if if you have the time. Thanks
