I have many of my boxes at the Carefree Buffalo, a high end gallery in Jacksonville Oregon. They sell many nice items, including collectable folding knives by William Henry that cost between $1K and $45K. I decided to design a few boxes to see if these knife collectors would be interested in having a nice home for them.
This is the first one I designed.
I apologize for the snapshots, I almost forgot to snap these before we headed out the door.
It features pegged butt joints, textured side panels and a carved top.
Not sure what to call this type of top construction with its three interconnected panels…? Laminated? Any ideas?
The top is made up of live edge Big Leaf-Western Maple, then figure Walnut, and at the back is Myrtlewood. The red moon is Paduak. The dividers are Walnut and are removable, that’s why you see gaps here and there. Have I mentioned before how much I dislike making dividers like these!!??
The hinges are 1/8” brass pins. The lining is black velvet, which for some reason looks like its covered in dust, buts is not…light reflections? weird.
I will post another one of these knife boxes soon, it is in figured Myrtlewood.
Thanks for looking, leave a question or comment.

Nice one Andy. Good luck on the sales. Collectors like to have nice places for their treasures.

I see this box to be very fitting for knife storage. Wis I had some nice knives to put in there. Well done.

Andy, beautiful box! I like the texturing and the live edge on the lid. Some knife collector will be proud to store and display his treasures in this baby.

Hey Andy,

Hope it sells. Looks like a simple box from a guy like you. LOL! Nice pattern and color choices. How did you achieve the stippling other than very patiently. LOL!

Thanks everyone, glad you like it.
@Thomas, I used a Foredom with a grinder bit to do the sides, just kept flipping the direction to achieve this look. The top was done with a reciprocating rotary attachment that uses chisels….and hand chisels too.
