This bowl is made from a gourd.

If you have never worked with gourds they are like very dense and strong wood.

The rim is made with spaulted hickory.

I tried growing gourds last summer. I had some big plans for those basket gourds and apple gourds. But what a total disaster – those gourds devoured my aspargus patch, took over the entire yard, then when I picked the whopping 20 gourds – they all rotted but one. It dried nicely.. I had big plans for that one gourd… then after it was perfectly dried and ready for use… my dog ATE IT. Entirely consumed it. So- I love and envy your lovely gourd project. Concratulations on a job well done.

When I see ‘gourds’ they remind me of Gilligans Island. They were used in an all manner of ways. I was given some seeds a few years back and plan to grow some. However after reading ‘Reivergirls’ post I’m a little worried about it. I’ll keep you posted as to how they go. If successful, maybe I can use them as you have Campy.
Regards Hagrid.
PS I love your little Gourd Box
