Project Information
My wife was becoming a godmother a little while back and asked me whether I could build something as a gift for the occasion. Originally I was granted a weekend to build something, but it turned out to be more like three. I don't own a jointer so I had to spend a bit of time dressing the cherry by hand.
The main parts are joined by tapered sliding dovetails, the sides are stopped, the shelves are through joints. The back is shiplapped. The drawer front were my first hand-cut dovetails and turned out ok. I "cheated" on the drawer bottoms and backs (plywood and machine cut locked rabbet) due to time constraints. The piece is finished with 3 or 4 coats of tried and true oil varnish mix.
Thanks for looking.
