Thought that I would share this new pen kit for me to you. I believe that I have seen this before on LJ’s. A PSI kit that you can see here: http://woodturning.pennstateind.com/search/index?query=50+caliber+bullet+cartridge+pen

This is a monster sized pen, using a real spent 50 caliber casing. 3/4 inch at the base, and 9/16th inch at the opening, 4 inches long. It feels heavy. It looks awesome, and will be a head turner. I used a red and black laminate for the bullet, which you can made the size different from 1 1/8 to 2 inches long, I went 1 1/2, but next time will go less. The bullet just looks a bit BIG! It has a metal tip where the pen comes down through. With the correct spacers this took….. all of about 2 minutes to turn, lots less time than even a slimline. They suggest that you polish the casing first, but this one came through in good shape.

Pros: Great looking pen, almost anything that you use for the bullet will look good. For the cost, this pen would sell just as a conversation piece, but it writes well, and feels like you have a 50 caliber round in your hand!

Cons: Instructions bite. You have to read them a few times and then apply common sence. I hate that when instructions aren’t good, but you can do it. And the bullet turns to let down the pen, this feels a bit flimsy for a tough looking round like this. Maybe it was just this pen. In any case I will be ordering more. I would think that this would be a good seller at gun shops and such.

The hairstick is made of Purple Heart for the shaft, Yellow Heart for the orb, and Curly Narra for the cap. Now this stick is not finished yet, and I am hoping that the colors seen will jump out more when finished. I have to say that the Narra wood is a favorite for me, with excellent results in all that I have made with it. It also does not seem to change color like Padauk does. The stick measures at only 5 3/4 inches long, the smallest stick that I have made to date.

Hey, thanks for spending some time with the old Hacksaw007, and the name is Mike, not Jerry, scrollgirl! HAHA

Sorry, Mike!!! My head got fuzzy! Jerry also makes pens and I know the difference of you two, but I mixed your names up for a minute! :P

Great Pen, Mike!!!

Bet that would also be a great seller at a military/airshow type event!
