This is a Toy chest I made for my Nephew. It is made from ebony stained Pine, with torsion hinges. I was not too excited about making a black piece, but that is the color of the rest of his furniture. hopefully my next one can be made of some beautiful and interesting wood.

Great job! I’m sure he’ll love it. I”m trying to complete one for my daughter now – a little more work than I’d figured. Where’d you get the hinges?

Rockler. They were pricey but very nice. One down fall is they are designed to work with 3/4 in stock only.

hey Reepss, great toy chest. How many coats of ebony stain did you have to use to get it that black?? (did you use a pre-stain of any kind?) thanks

Very unusual looking chest, but it looks great, kinda like a pirate chest. What other color would a pirates chest be? Nice work. As long as he’s happy.

The Bosch miter saw is great. my only complaint is how much room it takes up. As for why stain rather than paint. I really would rather see the grain than just paint. There are 3 coats of minwax Ebony stain on the chest followed by 3 sprayed coats of waterbased poly, no prestain.

Have your say...
