This bench was set out at the curb by someone down the street. The slats had several layers of pealing paint and were bowed way out of usability. The cast iron end pieces had a lot of surface rust.
My son helped me carry it home where we took it apart and discarded the wood and attachment nuts and bolts. I used a wire brush on the iron, then painted it with two coats of primer followed by textured paint to protect it while making it look like iron again. The slats are oak with 4-5 coats of spar varnish.
