Maple Crib

I’ve been following this website for a couple of years now, but this is the first project I’ve felt warranted posting. My son was born 4 1/2 months ago, and I just finished his crib this morning. I based the design on some other cribs that I’ve seen posted here. I guess we’ll see how much he likes it tonight. Most of the joints are mortise and tenon (my first time making those), but I also used a little hardware so that it could disassemble to fit through doorways. The crib is all maple, and the rails are bird’s eye maple. I finished it with a food-grade “wood cream” made here in Bellingham, WA. It is designed for use on cutting boards and other kitchen utensils, but I figured my son would be chewing on the crib, so I better use a safe finish. I’m guessing I put about 120 hours into this project.

Good looking crib Andrew! Thanks for posting your hours. I often wonder how long it takes some folks to do some of these projects. I’m working on a crib for my son that was born 3 weeks ago. I finished the build the day before he was born. Been trying to find time to stain it ever since. Hopefully I’ll have it up here soon. Congrats and nice build!

Beautiful job. I can’t wait to have a grandchild so I can build one for he or she.

Well done!
Looks very solid and I think your son is asking for a hammer! :)
