A nearby small town has put out 100’s of blue bird houses, in an effort to get the blue birds to return to that town. Maybe 50 years ago, there were so many blue birds, their high school mascot was the Blue Bird.

Two ladies from that town, that I work on projects with regularly, are rehabbing an old main street building, to be a new community center. Both ladies go crazy over blue birds and the project to bring them back.

I decided a nice gift for their newly rehabbed building would be a stained glass Blue Bird panel. Furthermore, I decided to make it an LED lighted display panel.

The stained glass panel was the easy part. Learning about those new fangled LED strip lights was a real adventure!!

I made a prototype box from common pine. The final box is red oak, stained to a Golden Oak color.

The two ladies were tickled pink to receive my gift.

If you are interested in my Trials & Tribulations on this project, and there were many, you can see my woodworking web site.

Thanks!

That was a great project. Your stain glass looks absolutely beautiful along with your frames. I know the ladies will admire and appreciate the hard work you put into building them. The lighting was a terrific idea and will make the stain glass Bluebirds pop. Thanks for taking your time and talent for such a good cause.

These are the same panel. The one on the left is not lighted, and the one on the right is LED lighted up.

Thanks, they did turn out pretty nice….........and the lady customers love it!

Very nice! I bet they are awesome when lit. We had some blue birds nest in an old bird house in our yard.
