My area for my lathe is shaping up! Lights & electric in now and I decided the area needed to be handy. On the first pick you can see that I put up a peg board and other items I needed for handy/easy access to the lathe tools. So I made up this holder and since I do have gkids I didn’t want anyone (or myself) getting cut by accident. I added a piece of plexi glass also so I can see the tips without having to pull each one out and see it at my eye level. Then I added some pvc pipe with a piece of wood inside to hold pencils and things that may come along. Now my masks, push tool, wrench aren’t sitting under the cabinet to bend over each time when I want to use them. I am going to add a magazine rack so all my lathe books are right there. Now that I am done designing I can get back to lathe play.

Nice setup. You may want to consider putting your book stand behind your lathe or maybe to the left of the head to avoid having to turn so much to look at it while at the lathe. I don’t know if you referrence it will turning or not, but if so it would be safer if it were in a proximity that would allow you to see your machine while viewing the lathe. You must decide what is more comfortable to you…it is just a thought.

MSDebbie..remember this is on MY side of the shop. I just close the door to “his” side. UGH! Thanks all for the comments. (I did another ornament today! *BG) Oscorner..I have BIG respect for machines. My book is far away from anything turning and if I have to study the book I shut it off. I felt if I had it to the left of me I was more apt to run into something turning. I don’t have the machine on until I am concentrating on what I am working on. Safety is important and thanks for your concern & thoughts.
