Nice Betsy. You say you had a short lived foray in scrolling – does that mean you gave it up or simply put it on the back burner for awhile?

put it on the back burner. I actually like to scroll and do a pretty fair job of it. But I have to have a project that “speaks” to me to make me want to sit down and do it. I’ve made chess sets, clocks, those types of things.

I know what you mean about sitting down to do it. I bought a Hawk Scrollsaw 5 or 6 years ago and I’m ashamed to say it – but I doubt I have 10 hours of use on it.

Betsy -
That is absolutely awesome! You should consider posting a blog detailing the process . . . I am sure a number of your fellow Lumberjocks are going to be facinated with this piece!

Betsy, that looks great! I love your frame. Did you make that as well?
cajunpen…. shame on you! Only ten hours on the scrollsaw… tsk tsk. I was doing about 10-20 hours a week for about 3-4 years. I’ve backed off of that a bit. I’m going other directions with my wood working. Currently I’ve been at the lathe more than anything. But I have a 2 commissions to draw a pattern and cut out for the scroll saw do for by Christmas.

Thanks all.
Kerux – yes I made the frame. It’s a pattern I got off a guy at Woodcraft. It’s made out of an old picket fence slat.
This pattern was from a book – wish I could take credit for it. I have great patience for scroll sawing when I’m in the zone – but making my own patterns is another thing. I’ve done several of my own and they’ve turned out pretty good but the fella that made this one is more than top notch.
David – I think a blog on this would be a really fun project. I’ll give it some thought and may just do it! Thanks for the idea.

Yes Betsy , This is very nice! (John Wayne) Along with your boxes. I loved the story on your little box! You know I save all little pieces because of intarsia, but it IS fun to take something so little that most people would not give a second thought about and make something out of it! I like your style! And I have been digging thru my pictures! I am going to attempt this very soon. I just can’t think of a more awesome gift than a portrait scrolled sawn picture of my grandson at his age now (6) that can possibly be kept forever. I would love to do one of all 3 of my grandchildren. I am so excited of the prospect of actually doing one I am almost giddy! Yes I am serious. YThanks for everything, PEACE!!!

Betsy, Do you think that just the grandson in this picture that I am using could be done, The little guy looks so good in this pic, but there is not enough shading is there?
Thanks and PEACE!!!
