I made this box for a friend that is having a baby girl. I love the way the dust from the blood wood stuck in the grain of the hickory.

On this one I made a heart by folding a piece of paper and cutting a heart out, then gluer it to the bottom piece. I then used the band saw to cut out the center, then glue the cut line together. I used a pogo sander to sand the inside smooth. Then with a compass I use the inside to lay out the outside at 1/4” thick. Band saw the outside and sand it smooth. Now you have the shape use 1/8” material to make the bottom and top sanded to fit the inside lip of the box. Glue the top piece to one of the 1/8” pieces. Sand the top to the profile of the base. I carve the top by using a 6” sanding pad in the drill press. I use spray lacer for the top because it sands and burns into itself making a glass finish. Hope you all enjoy

Very classy !!! Amazing symmetry on the shape and even the choice of grain direction and layout shows artist and craftsman.
