I recently finished this chess board. It’s made from Maple and Walnut. The top has thin layers of hardwood glued to a plywood base. I finished it with brushing lacquer which was my first time trying it. I’m very pleased with the results.

I’ve got a lot more detail on how I made this on my webpage:

Ivan’s exactly right. Beautiful board and set. Where did you get the pieces from and and what size base are they?

I got them from wholesalechess.com, I’m not sure off the top of my head the base size….probably about 1-1/4” dia.

The fluted corner pieces are a nice touch (oak?).

Great job!

Very nice! I like the panel construction. Don’t know if you are a turner or not, but try making pieces sometime. Very satisfying!

I really like your version of an elegant Chess Board and storage cabinet. Very sophisticated, makes you want sit down and contemplate your next move. I hope your best game is yet to come!!
