I make a lot of these chairs. Mostly pine that can be painted. The two in this picture are big brother little brother. The one on the left is 3 inches wider, taller and deeper than it’s original sibling. I had a very large man that wanted a chair more to his size. He bought two. The seat were actually made from 2x lumber that I rabbited the ends to make appear they were only 3/4 lumber. Plain 3/4 would have been to bouncy on the large chair.

Another nice project – have you been holding out on us – or just getting around to posting more pictures?

Not holding out—- just these were stuck on my old computer and I had trouble transferring them over. I still have others, but those will wait for another time. Hopefully will be posting what I’m working on now soon.

Great chairs, I have a couple of the same type pattern on my patio. I really like them.

I been wanting to make a adirondack chair for some time for my wife. She’s 5 foot 2, what size wood you use for her. She has a bad knee and its diffcult for her to sit and get up easly.

Dominic—- it may sound counterintuitive – but I would make the larger size for your wife. The larger chair is actually easier to get in and out of. I have had one knee replaced and will be having the other done in another year or so and I find the big chair much more comfortable. I’m only a few inches taller than your wife. This chair is super easy to make. With that said, I only have the regular size chairs right now and they are not so bad getting in and out of. The other alternative if you want to keep the same size as the original plans would be to change the angle of the back a bit so it is not so reclined.

The original plans are from Wood Plans. I, however, do not follow them completely. I plan to do a blog on this chair soon as I need to make a few for our church auction. Long and short though if you buy the plans, even if you follow them precisely you’ll come out with a pretty nice chair.
