Had some nice walnut that needed a home. Two nice boxes.I french polished the tops. Hand tool project.

I like your boxes. Was it hard inserting those barrel hinges, they sure add a handsome look to a box and seem to work nicely.

I clamp scrap wood on both sides when I mortice the hole for the lid stay. Probably not the best hinge choice if your not ready to fiddle with them for a bit.

Those things are a pain in the *$$ – I just finish the third box I built with them (to be posted later), and each time I keep saying I will never use them again… but they look so nice and work well after the HOURS of tinkering to get the mortise right. I’m also mostly working powerless… the worst is that the mortise needs to undercut the back area where the screw is placed and that is somehow always the most frustrating bit of it. Nice box!

These boxes are so beautiful and nicely done. They show a lot of fine details and outstanding craftsmanship.
