This is a Keep Sake Box I have made for a wonderful friend and church leader, he has been more then kind and loving and is a wonderful man and a friend to me since Ive lived here in Alabama. This box is made of quite a few woods. Oak, Walnut, Padauk, Dogwood, Red Cedar, Bubinga, and Red Bud, My rendition of the tree of life is on the top of the box, there are 50 pieces that were cut at a 45 degree angle and glued up with a strip of walnut in between each strip, and the fruit on the tree is made of dogwood, dogwood is a wonderful hard wood and a very white wood, which was perfect for this particular project. The joinery is dovetail and the top is glued together with the use of biscuits. The inside of the box has walnut on the sides with a piece of padauk in each corner and the bottom of the box is Red Cedar, that is held in place with a 3/4 inch datto. The legs on the box are pieces of Red Bud, its a tree that grows here in Alabama and has a beautiful grain pattern to it, and i have just a small amount of this as it came from a fallen branch here at my home. The box is sealed with 4 coats of polyurethane . I will be giving this gift to my friend this Thursday and then it can settle into its new home, thanks for looking and I love your comments. Grizzman

And don’t YOU just make beautiful woodworking projects, Mr. (clean-shaven, short-haired) GrizzMan ?!?

The stories, the design, the sentiment, and the handiwork behind them … always makes them about two points MORE special, in MY book :-)

This is absolutely beautiful! The story behind the box and the wood is also so nice. I am so glad you took pictures of all the sides and the inside too. It is so pretty! I have never seen dogwood available here or the red bud you spoke of. They certainly add to the beauty of this box. Really, really nice!

This is a very typical Grizz box… I would know it was made by you just by looking…you have your own unique style..
