I’m a bit confused by your design. Whats the screws in the joint all about? How did you manage the bottom fire in the wood?

I have made several of these walnut book stands in the traditional Roubo style. The joints are weak and will split if a big book is on it. This one is in the kitchen holding some big heavy cook books. I wanted the hinges pillowed so I made it in four pieces. I assembled it with glue and screws. The flames were cut/ carved before assembly.
