I made these boxes under the careful guidance of Boxguy. When I say I made them I use that term lightly. Boxguy is a teacher through and through. Anytime you build anything with this man your in for an education. I used to think I knew a little about woodworking. I realize now, being in the presents of guys like boxguy, Maplerock, and all those fine woodworkers in Lumberjocks, I have a long way to go in a short period of time.

The box sides are from Floyd County, Indiana Ash. With Bore holes and defects that give these boxes such rich character. The top and splines are made of Purple Heart. Both boxes went to nieces for wedding presents.

Thanks for taking your time, Take Care, Joe

They look very nice. I like the knot, character in those “defects”

I wouldn’t sell yourself short. I flipped to your projects page, you’ve made several very nice looking boxes. Good work.

Joe, these boxes have a rich look. That figured Purpleheart is really beautiful. The ash is a great contrast in color and grain.

More impressive than the box is you in a nicely pressed and well tailored suit with a tie that matches your box. You really do clean up well. Had I been there I probably would have felt the need to sprinkle a little sawdust on you so I could recognize the Curly Joe I know.

No one can be a teacher without students. You, Maple Rock, Derrick, Greer, Josh, Thomas, Owen, Joel, Dale, William and several others have all been fun and willing learners. That is all any teacher can ask for. Working with each of you in the shop has really made boxmaking much more fun for me. Like all teachers, I have learned from everyone I have taught. You taught me about the importance of having a generosity of spirit. Thank you for that gift.

Doesn’t that Purple heart just jump out at you. Well done.
