Corner Shelf for my Boys

This is a corner shelf I made for my two older boys who share a room. They currently have a Wal-Mart shelf in there and it is leaning severely, shelves are bending, and the back is falling off.

I made this one from scraps and mess-ups from another corner shelf project for my parents. I laminated 3/4” and 1/2” Purebond birch plywood tagoether to make the sides, using the 1/2” to fill space between the shelves, sort of like creating dados for the shelves. I trimmed it with some scrap pine I had lying around and will have to wait and see how well it holds up.

The shelves are strong and sturdy, it resists racking really well, and affords much more space for books and whatnot. I stained it with Minwax Gunstock stain, no prestain because I just wanted to see how it would turn out on the birch.

Thanks for taking a look!

Looks good Ian. Would you call those cathedral ends?

Thanks, Rick. I think I would call them “made the top shelf the wrong size, tossed it out, and then needed to decide what to do with the now “extra” height…ends”. But we can go with cathedral ends, that sounds much fancier…and intentional! Lol

Thank you, it is based off of something my mom came up with and asked me to make her.

Thank you! I should have also mentioned that I put a few coats of Shellac on it to try and protect it from my sons.
