I am less of a dedicated hand tool woodworker, more of a hybrid woodworker. Therefore, I do not often have a need for a grease pot/box. On the rare occasion I just use paraffin to “grease” my handsaws and planes. Having been given a hunk of walnut I decided to make myself a box Roy Underhill made popular. I made two boxes and gave one to the friend who gave me the walnut. When I gave my friend the gift he mentioned he harvested the lumber prior to 1970 and stored it in his barn ever since! I was born in 1971.
To learn more about the grease box I encourage you to search LJ’s for Mafe. He has written a lot on this subject.
Thanks for looking

Nice grease box! You were born a year after the wood was harvested. That makes it special. Our first born was born in the same year! 1/13

Thanks for the compliments everyone. Yes it was fun Ron. I have the mystery mallet on my things to do list too. I have enough mallets but think it’d be a fun build.

Lol, Good deal. MAFE has definitely done his research. The history/background on projects are always interesting to me
