I purchased a CD player to plug into my tape player, but it was kind of cumbersome just sitting on the dash shelf. I ended up designing a console to keep it in. I also added removable tilt out litter bins, one on each side. The rear door hinges up sideways, for storing CD’s & books. It’s made so the front half is removable in case you need to do repairs under the dash.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You may also notice there are tilt out litter bins on both the driver, & passenger sides. The are removeable for dumping the litter.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This shows the reason part of the rail is missing, it’s to provide clearance for the buckle.

What an incredible idea, Dick. I paid a fortune for a BMW with wood trim – wish I had know you first (LOL).

Thanks Dick. I’ve been thinking about making one of these, but couldn’t quite get my head to think of how it would look.

Now that I know I’ll like it I suppose I can make one now!

Thanks everyone, & Darryl I wish I had the plans for this. I started out by making a pattern to fit the contour of the dash. The rest just came together during the process of making it. I had to sacrifice the ash tray for this project, but I don’t smoke.

Those are called Galley pegs. I bought a bunch of them quite a few years ago. I can’t even remember where I got them.

I have been thinking about something similar to this to put in my pickup. I want a no holes mount to put a CB and such in. This helps give me ideas. Thanks and great work!

It’s kind of nice seeing this thread come back to life. That’s what’s nice about LJ, when you submit a project, it’s available anytime.
I forgot to mention that I had to remove the original console, which had an lighter outlet. It was useful to plug my CD player into.

Nice work Dick. I am glad this one came back up.

Oh, and where are the cup holders?

I couldn’t quite fit in cup holders, but the side racks on the tray keep the cups from sliding off.
