Just finished two of this chair. The seat is hand gouged from a 4” thick Dao slab. The bottom stretchers are carved out from the same piece. The arm rests and crest rail are balayong wood. The back splat is steam bent laminated Philippine ebony (kamagong) and flexes when leaned on. The legs are ironwood (Dungon). I’ve built several of this in the past years but love the Dao wood seat on this.

All woods used are reclaimed as with all my projects.

That whole chair is fascinating, from the wood, to the carved seat with carved stretchers to the way the legs taper and then flair to support the arm rests. Quite amazing to look at. Is it comfortable?
