Ever made something out of boredom? This is my take on a decorative center piece for the dining room table. After making dovetail keyed splines for a project a while ago, I had a bunch of these funny shaped cut offs. Since I subscribe to the “no such thing as scrap” mantra, I saved them with no real purpose. Time for an “Arts and Scraps” project!

Maple bowl with walnut splines, and walnut filler. Top of the bowl has a round over, while the bottom edge has a small chamfer to give a little shadow line.

-one part boredom
-two parts too many scraps laying around
-one part testing the new miter saw
-one part tongue in cheek

I call this piece “bowl of walnuts”.

The saying is: You simply cannot go wrong with combining maple and walnut.

You have proven that saying with this project!

Yummy. Great use of those “special” pieces we keep laying around.
