wooden macbook

Well, I haven’t posted here in a long time…

I just bought a 15’ Macbook Pro a few weeks ago. I wasn’t a big fan of the silver color so i decided to cover it with wood.. which i do like. I ordered some figured walnut veneer online, it was delivered, flattened, cut, and finished. Very simple process. It is attached with 3M double sided tape. It can be taken off if I ever don’t want it anymore, although it is not reusable.

I can not take credit for this idea. I have seen it for sale online, but I couldn’t bring myself to buy one when I could just make one!

What do you think? I have had some good reviews by friends.. but not everyone likes it.

Great work . I think they should offer this as a factory option with a choice of different woods. How about doing individual keys…...?

I doubt you’ll find many people on this web site that don’t like it. I think it’s really cool. I’m into changing stuff like that so it’s not like everyone else’s. Great idea, I wonder how the durability will be?

Definitely looks attractive, but like Jason, I wonder about its durability. I’m not that gentle with my laptop, but if you are then it probably wouldn’t be a problem.

Fantastic idea! I’ve already got the wood keyboard and mouse, I’m now eyeing the monitors and various other instruments in my office…

Very cool! Slightly retro, like a wood-sided station wagon.

i don’t think durability will be an issue… i baby my laptop, as it rarely leaves my house. i dont keep drinks or anything on top of it while its closed. the finish seems strong enough as long as the wood doesnt crack or split…
If it does fall apart or something, im happy with making a new one.. ive got plenty of veneer!

patron, i had that thought… but its like a car, you are usually inside it, but you still want the outside to look good.

i have taken note of the keyboard thing… and i am thinking about applying the keyboard/trackpad surround with the veneer to match the outside..

thanks for all the great comments!

I am totally stealing this idea. I also looked at the link posted and want to find me a wooden mouse. The only problem I have is the one pictured on the site was corded. Do they make a wireless one?

Wow I love this! Two of my favourite things, a Mac and Wood rolled into one!! I would love to know how you did the Apple logo cut out, so perfectly?
