I made a red oak project for someone at work, and wanted it to match the existing built-in furniture.
Every day I’d stain a few samples of scrap, bring them in and compare, and try to find a closer match. By day 3 I was mixing stains I had in different proportions to try to get close.
When I was finished, I threw away all the samples – and never even wrote down the mixtures!
Then the facilities manager told me “Oh yeah, we have gallons of that stain left over from construction. You should have asked for it!”

I have been asked a couple of times how stained red oak looked. Never had the time to do as you have. Thanks for answering the question for me. I will definitely keep this forum for them to look at next time. Good job.
