I have been asked in the past to build one of these prie dieu, or kneeler to me. Some reason it has never gotten in the rotation of projects. This year I decided to build it for my mother in laws birthday.

Every Sunday I would measure rather by shoe method, or hand measure lengths and heights etc. seems to have turned out well. As the plan progressed I included a storage compartment under the top for rosaries, books etc. it has its challenges finishing it on the most humid week ends, weather not cooperating, and not enough clamps every woodworkers complaint.

It’s made of solid Red Oak, with tiger maple inserts in the sides and on the top. The kneeling pad rotates on two 3/8 nylon spacers from Home Depot $1.29.

I am proud of this one and have learned some lessons from it, that will make the next one even nicer.

Nice work, James! Welcome to the Prie Dieu club. I like your cross detail, and your upholstery work is stellar! Keep it up!

You wrote … ”Every Sunday I would measure rather by shoe method, or hand measure lengths and heights etc.” When I need measurements I snap a photo of the recipient in a kneeling position and then use proportional dividers to get the correct dimensions. The Rector caught me doing this once and asked me if I was a prayer voyeur … LOL!

Thank you for the comments, my Mother in Law loved it very much. I enjoy creating things that others will use, a price of is with them always.
